coat

Sometimes the word "coat" means to cover over or put a layer on something:

• This morning I woke up to find a coating of snow on everything.
• Everything was coated with snow.
• Snow is coating the trees and the bushes.
• There’s a fresh coat of snow on the ground.

While the word "coat" is often used for snow, it’s also used for other things:

• The truck is coated with mud.
• The ice cream bar has a coating of chocolate.
• A glazed donut is coated with a thin layer of sugar.

Of course, the word "coat" is also used to describe clothing worn by people:

• He’s wearing a heavy coat .
• He’s wearing an overcoat.

• He wears a coat and tie to work.
• He’s wearing a suit coat.

• This labrador has a shiny black coat.
• She has a coat of fur.
